Description
Esomeprazole EC and Domperidone SR Capsules are a combination medication used to treat acid reflux, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), functional dyspepsia, and associated symptoms like nausea, bloating, fullness, and regurgitation. The combination targets both acid suppression and gastrointestinal motility.
- Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that reduces gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme in stomach parietal cells.
- Domperidone is a prokinetic and antiemetic agent that increases gastrointestinal motility and helps in the faster emptying of the stomach by blocking dopamine (D2) receptors in the gut.
The enteric coating on Esomeprazole protects it from degradation in the stomach, ensuring release and absorption in the intestine. Domperidone SR offers sustained action to improve upper GI motility throughout the day.
Mechanism of Action:
- Esomeprazole decreases stomach acid production by inhibiting the gastric proton pump, helping heal and prevent acid-related damage.
- Domperidone enhances gastric emptying and reduces symptoms of nausea and bloating by increasing peristalsis and lowering esophageal sphincter pressure.
Indications:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Functional dyspepsia
- Non-ulcer dyspepsia
- Acid reflux with delayed gastric emptying
- Nausea and vomiting related to acid disorders
- Gastritis and peptic ulcer symptoms
