Description
Silicone Oil 5000 cSt is a high-viscosity, medical-grade intraocular tamponade used in vitreoretinal surgeries for the treatment of complex retinal detachments. It is specifically designed to provide long-term internal support to the retina following surgical repair, especially in cases involving proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR), giant retinal tears, traumatic retinal detachment, and recurrent detachments.
The 5000 centistokes (cSt) viscosity offers prolonged tamponade effect, greater stability in the vitreous cavity, and low risk of emulsification over extended periods.
Key Features & Benefits:
- High viscosity (5000 cSt) ensures long-term tamponad
- Low emulsification rate, even in long-term use
- Biocompatible and inert – minimal reaction with intraocular tissues
- High optical clarity for post-op monitoring
- Supplied sterile and ready-to-use in prefilled syringes or glass vials
- Can be easily removed in follow-up surgery
Usage & Administration:
- Used intraoperatively during pars plana vitrectomy
- Injected into the vitreous cavity after vitrectomy and laser photocoagulation
- May remain in the eye for weeks to months, depending on the condition
