Description
Minoxidil is a peripheral vasodilator originally used as an oral antihypertensive agent. When applied topically, it stimulates hair regrowth by prolonging the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle and enlarging hair follicles. Although the exact mechanism is not fully understood, minoxidil is believed to enhance blood circulation to hair follicles and activate potassium channels, improving follicular function.
Uses: Minoxidil 5% Topical Solution is recommended for:
- Androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss)
- Hair thinning at the crown or vertex of the scalp
- Early to moderate stages of hair loss
It is more commonly used by men, but may also be prescribed to women with caution, especially in cases where lower concentrations (2%) are ineffective.
