Description
Minoxidil Tablet IP 2.5 mg is an oral medication primarily used for treating high blood pressure (hypertension) and, in some cases, off-label for promoting hair regrowth in individuals experiencing hair loss. It is a potent vasodilator that works by relaxing blood vessels to improve blood flow.
Indications:
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure):
-
Recommended for severe or resistant hypertension when other medications are ineffective.
-
Often used in combination with other antihypertensive drugs, such as beta-blockers and diuretics, to manage side effects like fluid retention and increased heart rate.
-
- Off-Label Use for Hair Loss:
-
Emerging evidence suggests the effectiveness of oral Minoxidil for promoting hair regrowth in individuals with:
-
Androgenetic Alopecia (Male and Female Pattern Hair Loss)
-
Telogen Effluvium or other hair loss conditions.
-
-
Mechanism of Action:
-
For Hypertension: Minoxidil relaxes smooth muscles in the walls of blood vessels, leading to dilation of arterioles (small arteries). This reduces peripheral resistance and lowers blood pressure.
-
For Hair Growth: Though not entirely understood, Minoxidil may prolong the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicles and improve blood flow to the scalp, stimulating hair regrowth.
