Description
Lidocaine Topical Spray is a fast-acting local anesthetic used to temporarily numb the skin or mucous membranes. It works by blocking nerve signals at the site of application, providing quick relief from pain, itching, or discomfort caused by minor cuts, burns, skin procedures, or injections. Commonly available in 10% strength, it is sprayed directly onto the affected area and begins to work within minutes, with effects lasting up to an hour.
Mechanism of Action:
Lidocaine works by blocking sodium channels in nerve cell membranes, which prevents the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses. This action results in a temporary loss of sensation (numbness) in the area where it is applied. It begins to act within minutes and provides short-term localized anesthesia, typically lasting 20–60 minutes depending on the area and dosage.
Uses:
Dermal and mucosal anesthesia:
- Minor cuts, abrasions, or skin irritations
- Injection site or IV cannulation preparation
- Tattooing, piercing, or laser hair removal
- Minor burns or sunburn relief
Intimate/sexual use: Premature ejaculation management (temporary numbing of the penis to delay climax)
