Description
Levofloxacin Tablets belong to a class of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones, used for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. Levofloxacin is a broad-spectrum, synthetic antibacterial agent effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Mechanism of Action:
Levofloxacin works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes critical for DNA replication and repair. This action disrupts bacterial DNA processes, leading to bacterial cell death.
Composition (Per Tablet): Levofloxacin – 250 mg / 500 mg / 750 mg (as per formulation)
Indications:
Levofloxacin Tablets are indicated for the treatment of:
- Respiratory Tract Infections: Community-acquired pneumonia, Acute bacterial sinusitis and Chronic bronchitis (acute exacerbation).
- Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): Complicated and uncomplicated UTIs and Pyelonephritis.
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
- Prostatitis (bacterial)
- Gastrointestinal infections (e.g., infectious diarrhea
- Bone and joint infections
