Gabapentin & Nortriptyline Tablets

Gabapentin Nortriptyline Tablets are a combination medication used primarily to treat neuropathic pain, such as pain caused by diabetes, shingles, or nerve injuries. The tablet contains Gabapentin, an anticonvulsant that calms overactive nerves, and Nortriptyline, a tricyclic antidepressant that alters the way the brain perceives pain by increasing levels of certain neurotransmitters. Together, they work synergistically to provide better pain relief than either drug alone.

Description

Gabapentin Nortriptyline Tablets are combination medications typically prescribed for the management of neuropathic pain (nerve-related pain). This combination brings together two different drug classes that work synergistically to relieve chronic pain, especially pain that doesn’t respond well to standard painkillers like NSAIDs or opioids.

Mechanism of Action:

  • Gabapentin acts on the α2δ subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels in the central nervous system, thereby reducing excitatory neurotransmitter release and dampening pain signaling.
  • Nortriptyline inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin at nerve terminals, enhancing inhibitory pain pathways and modulating central pain perception.

The combination offers synergistic pain relief, particularly useful when monotherapy is insufficient.

Uses:

Gabapentin Nortriptyline Tablets are indicated for the management of neuropathic pain, including but not limited to:

  • Diabetic peripheral neuropathy
  • Postherpetic neuralgia
  • Sciatica or radiculopathy
  • Chronic pain syndromes involving nerve damage
