Description
Fluorescein Sodium Injection 100 mg is a sterile, preservative-free diagnostic injectable dye used for fluorescein angiography (FA) of the retina and choroid. This procedure is critical for diagnosing and monitoring various retinal conditions including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vascular occlusions, and tumors.
Upon intravenous administration, fluorescein rapidly circulates through the bloodstream and fluoresces under blue light, enabling detailed imaging of the blood vessels in the retina and choroid using a fundus camera.
Mechanism of Action: Fluorescein sodium is a fluorescent contrast agent that, when exposed to blue light (465–490 nm), emits yellow-green fluorescence (520–530 nm). This fluorescence helps ophthalmologists visualize vascular abnormalities, leakage, occlusions, and neovascularization in the retina.
Indications / Uses:
- Fluorescein Fundus Angiography (FFA)
- Choroidal Angiography
- Diagnosis of retinal circulation disorders
- Assessment of macular degeneration
- Evaluation of diabetic retinopathy
- Tumor vasculature imaging
-
Ocular inflammatory disorders
