Description
Fexofenadine Hydrochloride & Montelukast Sodium Tablets are a fixed-dose combination used for the treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma-related symptoms. This combination offers dual-action relief by addressing both the histamine-mediated and leukotriene-mediated components of allergic inflammation.
- Fexofenadine is a second-generation, non-sedating antihistamine that selectively blocks peripheral H1 receptors, helping to relieve symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and urticaria without causing drowsiness.
- Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA) that blocks the action of leukotrienes—chemicals involved in allergic reactions and airway inflammation. It reduces nasal congestion, bronchoconstriction, and wheezing, especially beneficial in seasonal allergies and mild asthma.
The combination provides comprehensive and sustained symptom control for patients with seasonal allergic rhinitis, perennial rhinitis, and mild persistent asthma.
Mechanism of Action:
- Fexofenadine blocks histamine at H1 receptors, preventing allergic symptoms like itching and nasal discharge.
- Montelukast blocks cysteinyl leukotriene receptors in the lungs and nasal passages, reducing inflammation, mucus secretion, and bronchoconstriction.
Indications:
- Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
- Perennial allergic rhinitis
- Allergic conjunctivitis
- Asthma with coexisting allergic rhinitis (as add-on therapy)
- Chronic urticaria
