Description
Ciclopirox Olamine Cream is a broad-spectrum topical antifungal formulation used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections. It contains 1% w/w Ciclopirox Olamine, a synthetic antifungal agent that inhibits the growth of dermatophytes, yeasts, molds, and certain bacteria. This cream is especially effective in treating conditions like tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), candidiasis, and seborrheic dermatitis.
Ciclopirox works by interfering with the fungal cell membrane, disrupting essential enzymes involved in cellular metabolism and membrane transport. Unlike some other antifungals, it also exhibits anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.
Mechanism of Action: Ciclopirox Olamine has fungicidal and fungistatic activity. It inhibits the uptake of essential substrates by fungal cells and disrupts DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis. It also chelates polyvalent cations (Fe³⁺ and Al³⁺), inhibiting metal-dependent enzymes responsible for degrading toxic peroxides in fungal cells, leading to fungal death. Additionally, it has mild anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects.
