Description
Baclofen Tablets IP 10 mg are centrally acting muscle relaxants used primarily to manage muscle spasticity from neurological conditions like multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injury. By activating GABA-B receptors, baclofen reduces nerve signaling that leads to muscle tightness and spasms. The medication is typically well tolerated but may cause sedation, dizziness, or weakness, especially during dose titration.
Mechanism of Action:
Baclofen acts as an agonist at GABA-B receptors in the spinal cord and brain. It inhibits the transmission of nerve signals in the central nervous system that cause muscle spasticity. This results in relaxation of skeletal muscles, reduction in spasms, and relief from stiffness and pain associated with neurological disorders.
Uses: Baclofen 10 mg is used to manage muscle spasticity associated with:
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Spinal cord injuries or diseases
- Cerebral palsy (off-label)
- Stroke-related spasticity (off-label)
- Occasionally used off-label for alcohol use disorder, trigeminal neuralgia, and muscle cramps
