Description
Amoxycillin and Potassium Clavulanate is a combination antibiotic. Amoxycillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic effective against various bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. Clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate amoxycillin, thus expanding its spectrum of activity.
Indications:
Indicated for the treatment of infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing susceptible organisms, including:
- Acute sinusitis
- Acute otitis media
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Dental infections
Mechanism of Action:
Amoxycillin:
-
Binds to PBPs, inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, and leads to cell lysis (bactericidal).
Clavulanic Acid:
-
-
Inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria, protecting amoxycillin from degradation.
