Description
Potassium Nitrate, Sodium Monofluorophosphate with Triclosan Gel is a medicated dental formulation used for the prevention of dental caries, reduction of tooth sensitivity, and control of plaque and gingivitis. It combines three active agents with synergistic effects to promote oral health, especially in individuals prone to sensitive teeth and gum inflammation.
This gel is typically used as a therapeutic toothpaste and is recommended by dental professionals for patients suffering from dentin hypersensitivity, early-stage gingivitis, or those needing cavity protection. It may be used alone or in conjunction with other dental treatments like scaling or desensitizing procedures.
Mechanism of Action:
- Potassium Nitrate: Works by calming the nerves inside the teeth. It penetrates the dentinal tubules and blocks pain signals from the tooth surface to the nerve, thereby reducing sensitivity caused by hot, cold, sweet, or acidic stimuli.
- Sodium Monofluorophosphate (Fluoride): Helps remineralize enamel and prevent dental caries by strengthening tooth structure and making it more resistant to acid attacks.
- Triclosan: A broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that reduces the bacterial load in the oral cavity, thereby controlling plaque formation and gingival inflammation.
Indications:
- Dentin hypersensitivity (sensitive teeth)
- Prevention of dental caries
- Control of plaque and gingivitis
- Maintenance of oral hygiene in people with orthodontic appliances or periodontal conditions
