Description
Duloxetine is a prescription medication classified as a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). It is used to treat a range of mental health and neurological conditions including major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain, fibromyalgia, and chronic musculoskeletal pain such as back pain and osteoarthritis.
The gastro-resistant formulation is designed to prevent the tablet from dissolving in the stomach, allowing it to pass into the intestine before releasing the active ingredient. This helps protect the stomach lining from irritation and ensures more effective absorption of the drug.
Mechanism of Action:
Duloxetine works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine—two neurotransmitters involved in mood, emotion, and pain perception. By increasing their levels in the central nervous system, duloxetine helps to:
- Improve mood and reduce anxiety
- Decrease the intensity of pain signals
- Enhance overall emotional and physical well-being
Indications:
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
- Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathic Pain
- Fibromyalgia
- Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain
