It stimulates hair regrowth by prolonging the anagen (growth) phase of hair follicles, increasing follicle size, and enhancing blood flow in the scalp. Its efficacy in androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss) is well supported by clinical studies.

Mechanism of action: Minoxidil is a potent vasodilator that works by opening ATP-sensitive potassium channels in the smooth muscle cells of blood vessels, leading to relaxation and dilation of the arterioles in the scalp. This increased blood flow improves oxygen and nutrient delivery to hair follicles, which helps stimulate and prolong the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. Additionally, minoxidil is believed to increase follicle size and reactivate dormant hair follicles, promoting thicker and longer hair growth. Though the exact molecular pathways are not fully understood, these effects collectively result in enhanced hair regrowth and slowing of hair loss in androgenetic alopecia.
