Description
Riboflavin sterile solution in a 3 mL prefilled syringe (PFS) is a sterile, isotonic, aqueous ophthalmic formulation of Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), typically at a concentration of 0.1% w/v, intended for corneal use during corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) procedures. It is preservative-free and single-use, designed for direct application onto the cornea under medical supervision.
Indications:
- Used in corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) procedures for patients with keratoconus, post-LASIK ectasia, or other corneal thinning disorders.
-
Riboflavin acts as a photosensitizer activated by ultraviolet-A (UVA) light (365–375 nm), strengthening the corneal stroma by inducing cross-links between collagen fibers.
Composition:
- Riboflavin 5′-phosphate sodium (equivalent to 0.1% Riboflavin)
- Dextran or Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) (depending on formulation, to enhance corneal penetration and retention)
- Water for injection
-
Buffer agents (as required for pH balance)
