Description
Moxifloxacin & Loteprednol Ophthalmic Suspension is a combination eye drop medication used to treat bacterial eye infections and inflammation. It combines Moxifloxacin, an antibiotic, and Loteprednol, a corticosteroid, to address both the infection and the associated swelling or irritation in the eye.
Key Features:
Moxifloxacin (0.5%):
- A broad-spectrum antibiotic in the fluoroquinolone class.
- Works by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication, preventing bacterial growth and spread.
- Effective against a variety of bacterial pathogens causing eye infections, such as conjunctivitis and corneal ulcers.
Loteprednol (0.5%):
- A corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, redness, and swelling.
- Helps control inflammation caused by infections, injury, or post-surgical conditions.
-
Known for being a “soft” steroid, meaning it has a lower risk of causing eye pressure increases compared to other steroids.
Indications:
- Bacterial Conjunctivitis: Treats the infection while controlling associated inflammation.
- Corneal Ulcers: Combines antibacterial action with anti-inflammatory benefits to manage infection and healing.
- Post-surgical Inflammation: Used to manage swelling and prevent infection after eye surgeries, such as cataract surgery.
